What is LabTrek?

LabTrek is an annual academic-focused event hosted by the Science Students Association (SSA) for undergraduate students in the Faculty of Science. This year’s LabTrek will take place on September 19th, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with multiple sessions organized into five blocks throughout the day. Participants will meet at the Science Students Association Lounge (Room 209E, Armes Building) before attending their scheduled sessions.

The event provides students with the opportunity to tour various departmental laboratories, learn about the research being conducted within the Faculty, and gain early exposure to the diverse fields and opportunities available in science and research. Students will have the chance to meet Principal Investigators (PIs) in person, learn about their research, ask questions, and explore potential opportunities to become involved in their labs in the future.

LabTrek will also feature a panel discussion with upper-year students who have research and laboratory experience. This will allow participants to hear firsthand about their experiences, learn how to get involved in undergraduate research, and gain valuable insight into pursuing research during their degree.

Overall, LabTrek is an engaging way to start the academic year, connect undergraduate students with the Faculty’s research community, and introduce them to opportunities they may wish to pursue throughout their academic journey. Through LabTrek, the Science Students Association strives to connect, inform, and empower students while helping them make the most of their experience in the Faculty of Science.
