BUGS: Resume workshop and career planning

Interested in a JOB in BIOLOGY? Biology Undergraduate Students' Association - BUGS is holding a workshop that will allow you to learn about the different options within the field. Additionally, they will be reviewing how to build your resume to best highlight your strengths for the specific job you are interested in. 

Workshop will be held on Wednesday, November 21 from 6-8 PM in 304 Biological Sciences Building.

Locker Sales

Locker sales will begin on Sept 11 from 9 am - 11 am and Sept 12 from 12- 2pm. Please bring a valid student ID and the number of a locker you’d like to the SSA office located inside the Science Lounge.

Locker sales are also open to Non Science Students/U1 Students! Prices for non science/ U1 Students are as follows:

30$ for a FULL YEAR for a FULL LOCKER or 20$/ Semester for a FULL LOCKER. Prices for half lockers are the same for all students.

LabTrek Research Open House

LabTrek is a research open house that is an opportunity for students who want to further explore careers in Science and to gain an insight into the field of research. The day is composed of keynote speakers presenting a range of topics such as Neurobiology to Regenerative Medicine. As well as tours of research labs within the University of Manitoba Fort Garry Campus.

When: August 29th-30th (Thursday & Friday)

Where: SSA office (inside the Science Lounge)

How: Cash ONLY + Valid Student ID + Locker Number in one of Parker, Machray, Duff Roblin, Armes or Allen

Price:  

·    $20 for the school year (Sept 1st2018 – Aug 18th2019)

·    $10 for the semester (Sept 1st2018 – Dec 2018 / Jan 2019- Aug 18th2019)

·    Machray Half Lockers: $10 for the school year / $5 per semester

 

100 Lockers from each building have been reserved for the Early Bird Locker Special

Science Student Ski Trip

During the SSA elections, the Science Students’ Association promised a Faculty of Science Student Ski Trip, and that’s exactly what they have planned from February 16th-18th. The SSA is offering to take you and your friends to Asessippi Ski Resort in Russell MB during the first weekend preceding the winter reading week at a very affordable price:

·      $120.00 = Science students with equipment

·      $180.00 = Science students renting equipment

·      $180.00 = non-Science students with equipment

·      $240.00 = non-Science students renting equipment

The cost will cover your two-night stay at the Russell Inn, along with your two-day lift pass. Transportation will be covered by the SSA in the form of two luxurious motor-coach buses, each seating only 56, so sign up quickly as spots are limited.

You will leave from the U of M Fort Gary campus around 6:00PM on Friday February 16th, arriving at the Russell Inn around 10:00PM. Saturday and Sunday will include full days of skiing/snowboarding. You will leave from the ski hill around 5:00PM on Sunday February 18th, returning to the U of M campus around 9:00PM.

If you want to sign-up or have any questions, please come to the SSA Office in Armes across from Starbucks. The early bird deadline to sign up is December 8th (last day of Fall classes).

Biomedical Youth Program Summer Camp

*AMAZING HEALTH SCIENCE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY*

The Biomedical Youth Program (BYP) is looking for volunteers for its summer camp! The BYP Summer Camp five-day camp held at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Brodie Centre. This year the camp will run from July 17-21.

Volunteers can be either activity or group leaders, and volunteer times are flexible, ranging from 1 shift to all week.

This camp is a load of fun! If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about the camp please fill out the following form.
